EB5Alpha is a derivative of the DH5α™ strain and the best strain for everyday cloning. These chemically competent cells are manufactured using a proprietary technology that renders the cells highly efficient for DNA uptake. High transformation efficiency (≥ 109 cfu/µg pUC19) means a higher number of clones and greater representation. EB5 Alpha supports Blue/White screening through β-galactosidase complementation. The cells also contain the tonA gene, making them T1 and T5 bacteriophage resistant. For protein expression, EdgeBio offers Ultra BL21 (DE3) Chemically Competent cells which are equivalent to the popular BL21 (DE3) expression strain. Ultra BL21 cells are manufactured using a proprietary technology that makes the cells highly efficient for DNA uptake (guaranteed transformation efficiency of ≥ 2x108 cfu/µg pUC19). The lack of ompT and lon proteases improves the stability of synthesised proteins, resulting in a high level of expression. Ultra BL21 Chemically Competent Cells are also available in a pLysS version that will allow you to express otherwise toxic proteins.
