Kirsty Boden has recently joined VH Bio as a Molecular Biology Technical Sales Specialist covering the South UK territory.
She recently completed her PhD in Alzheimer’s research at the University of Nottingham and has worked in numerous research laboratories developing excellent expertise and experience in the molecular biology area.
PhD and Laboratory Experience
Kirsty graduated with a first class Human Biology BSc from the University of Birmingham in 2013. During this time, she developed a specific interest in molecular biology and genetics and this led her to join the Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) at the University of Nottingham.
While studying for her PhD, Kirsty worked in several molecular biology research labs completing projects in cancer research, gene therapy and cell biology. Ultimately her final PhD project was completed investigating the epigenetic regulation of Alzheimer’s disease. During these studies she gained experience in the use of numerous PCR and DNA sequencing techniques, including the use of whole genome sequence.
Other interests and experiences
In addition to the technical skills gained during her academic career, Kirsty also enjoyed various extra-curricular activities during her studies. She developed a keen interest in commercialisation of research and this resulted in participation in the ‘Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme’ and a work placement within the University of Nottingham Technology Transfer Team.
Kirsty is extremely excited to be working with new innovative molecular biology technologies within her new role and also using her scientific communication and educator skills developed during her work as an Academic tutor for the charity ‘The Brilliant Club’.
In her spare time, Kirsty is a keen amateur wine maker and cook and also enjoys participation in various sporting endeavours including cycling and running.
