Professor, University of Calgary
Dr. Kamala Patel spent 35 years in academia, working to understand the human immune system and how it misbehaves in chronic diseases. She established the Live Cell Imaging Lab at the University of Calgary and served as its Executive Director for over 20 years.
One of her core principles is to democratise science by building research platforms that are accessible to all. This led to the founding of Luxidea.
Luxidea identifies simple solutions already at the prototype stage and develops them into products to serve the research community. Their lead product is OptiSlides, prepared microscope slides that test, showcase and troubleshoot advanced microscopes.
